Multiculturalism’s Clandestine War Against Christianity-1

It is my belief that we, as Americans, are living in a post Christian culture. No longer do Judeo-Christian ethics serve as the compass that guide our national laws, beliefs and conduct. While it is true that in times of trouble lip service is paid to the Lord God of Heaven, it is as our Lord Jesus said in Matthew 15:8 "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."  (Read more......)

Teresa of Avila – An Ancient Mystic Who Helped Shape Today’s Spiritual Formation Movement

Teresa of Avila was a Carmelite nun who was born in Spain in 1515. As a young girl with an active imagination and great love for books, she was profoundly affected by her mother’s death, which left her emotionally empty. In despair, she threw herself before an image of the Virgin Mary and begged her to be her new mother. (Read more......)

Modernise or Perish!

A movement is creeping through evangelical and reformed churches these days. It is gathering pace as we near the 21st century. “The spiritual and moral state of the UK has reached crisis point,” it says, “but our traditional church image is dated. We are losing credibility and making little impact for the gospel. (Read more.......)

A Country brought to its knees so that it might turn to the Lord

Elijah was a man who prayed that his own country would be brought to its knees so that it might turn to the Lord. James informs us that before he ever stood before Ahab, and told him there would be no rain but according to his word, Elijah had earnestly sought the Lord in prayer that it would not rain,  (Read more.........)

The Proclamation Trust

In 2009 Time magazine placed New Calvinism third on their list of the 10 ideas changing the ‘World Right Now’. While the term New Calvinism is seldom heard in the UK, the ideas and teachings of New Calvinism has nevertheless penetrated deep into the UK evangelical camp. Three theologians from the USA, widely accepted as standing at the centre of New Calvinism, namely Dr Tim Keller, Pastor John Piper and Pastor Mark Driscoll, have become very influential among evangelical Christians in the UK.

FREEMASONRY: A Revealing Look at the Spiritual Side

Upfront, it must be noted that Masonry does not have an authoritative text to offer clarification in the way many religions and some ideologies do. Using religion as a comparison, Christianity has the Old and New Testament, Judaism the Torah and Talmud, Islam the Quran, and Hinduism builds on the Vedas. But a Masonic scriptural authority does not exist. Grand Lodge constitutions and monitors offer an official look into the workings of the Lodge, including duties and principles and explanations—with references to the “Great Architect of the Universe” and the Bible—but they lack deeper analysis.

Meditation! Pathway to Wellness or Doorway to the Occult?

In the West, mysticism always used to be restricted to a tiny fraction of the population (i.e., shamans, esoteric brotherhoods, and small spiritually elite groups). Never before has there been a widespread teaching of these methods to the general population. Now, mysticism pervades the Western world. How did this happen? (Read more........)

Standing Fast Through it All

If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. (Proverbs 24:10)
Hostility towards those who hold fast to the Lord Jesus Christ and the literal teachings of the Bible has increased greatly. Biblical Christians endeavouring to stand in their faith have been shocked and saddened at the growing antagonism coming at them not only from the world but from within the professing church itself. Spiritual Formation—A Dangerous Substitute For the Life of Christ

Aside from the fact that Spiritual Formation incorporates mystical practices into its infrastructure (remove the contemplative aspect and you don’t have “Spiritual Formation” anymore), Spiritual Formation is a works-based substitute for biblical Christianity. Let us explain. (Read more.......)

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them,” Ephesians 5:11.
Throughout my ministry I have preached to the best of my ability the Word of God and applied it to those who were caught up in the errors of the ecumenical denominations, in order that they might be aware of what God would have them do in the face of the deceptions and delusions propagated by the devil and his agents. That is the duty of a servant of God. (Read more......)

Private Interpretation Forbidden

Private Interpretation Forbidden:  “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation,” 2 Peter 1:20. Many would challenge Peter’s assertion, though perhaps they do so without realising the significance of their actions. I say this in order to ameliorate their error because I do feel many are unaware that they are engaged in that which Peter here forbids.  (Read more)

The Meltdown of Christianity

Since the turn of the millennium, the world has witnessed a virtual meltdown of biblical Christianity. While many are saying Christianity is experiencing a great revival and even a “new reformation,” this commentary will document the demise of Christianity by showing we are experiencing the greatest apostasy in modern-day history. The Spiritual ’Zika Virus’ Plaguing our Society

There is a truth in God’s Word which aptly sums up the underlying agenda of those who belong to the ‘world of perversion’, represented by the various sodomite groups.
It is found in Isaiah 5:20-21. “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Read more)

A Critique of 'Prayer' by Timothy Keller

PRAYER: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God
By Timothy Keller

According to the book jacket of Prayer (November 2014), Timothy Keller has written this book to “give instruction and guidance in how to make prayer genuinely meaningful… more personal and powerful… [and to teach] how to establish a practice of prayer… and how to find a deeper connection with God.” (Read More)

Jehovah's Witnesses Belief About Death Erroneous

Silence - The Language of God? (And Some Folks Promoting it)

For many years during my research, I would come across the term contemplative prayer. Immediately I would dismiss any thought that it had a New Age connotation because I thought it meant to ponder while praying—which would be the logical association with that term. But in the New Age disciplines, things are not always what they seem to be to untrained ears. (Read more)

Ten Word of Faith Doctrines Weighed Against Scripture

Since the 1970s, a growing and captivating faith-teaching movement has saturated the world. This movement continues to emphasize “faith Scriptures” as a foundation for encouraging Christians to have strong and unwavering faith when speaking, confessing, or declaring God’s Word for health and wealth. Most people refer to this faith movement as the “Word of Faith,” and many use Romans 10:8 and 17 to lay a foundation for their faith belief. (Read more)

The Benefits of having the Bible

“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple,” Psalm 119:130.   As a church we revere the Bible. It is given a prominent place in our services and in our lives. We preach its doctrines and contend for its truths. (Read more

Prophetic Truth Maintained from the Apostles until now

God Matures Believers through Trials

Psychological counseling theories and therapies have become so accepted throughout Christendom that Christians rarely question their use. They assume that psychological counseling is good, especially if practiced by a Christian. This acceptance of the psychological way actually reveals a lack of trust in Christ and the Bible. For example, many Christians spend more time, effort, and money on talk therapy than in learning to trust and know God through their trials. (Read more.....)

Why we should love the Jewish People

.....It is clear from the first words spoken to Abraham, [Genesis 12:1-3] from whom sprang the Jewish people, that he and his descendants would be those about whom there would a division of opinions. There would be those that would “bless” them and there would be those who would “curse” them! (Read More....)

Research: Spiritual Formation

Spiritual formation is the process of apparent spiritual development through engaging in a set of behaviours, termed disciplines. Advocates believe these disciplines help shape the character of the practitioner into the likeness of Christ.
Though superficially similar to discipleship, spiritual formation is not merely concerned with biblical exhortation and instruction in orthodox doctrine, but also with the teaching of “many practices that opened [the believer] to the presence and direction of God, and nurtured the character traits of Christ into fruition” (

Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary is Teaching Spiritual Formation

Just over two years ago in October 2013, the Editors ofB.A.N.A.S.H.published an article on their blog entitled Reformed Theologian recommends a book on 'Contemplative Prayer'.  This article highlighted Dr Beeke's recommendation of a book written by Tom Schwanda entitled 'Soul Recreation' on the Reformation Heritage Book (RHB) website. (This book along with Dr Beeke's comments is no longer available on the RBH but details of this can be accessed throughthis link).

Beware of the Orality Movement

For us to understand the 'Orality' movement we need to recognise that it is largely the product of the Lausanne Movement for World Evangelization that was founded by Billy Graham, John Stott and other prominent evangelical leaders. The first Lausanne Congress in 1974 called for a renewed mission to the world with a more holistic approach to evangelism. Billy Graham said: “Evangelism has taken on a new meaning.” The Lausanne Covenant promoted a new way of proclaiming the gospel that placed the message of personal salvation from sin alongside the message of social justice.

Eyewitness account of the 2015 Parliament of World Religions

The 2015 Parliament of the World's Religions was held October 15-19 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They estimated over fourteen thousand people attended this New Age (now called “interfaith”) convention at the cost of $500/person. This convention was well advertised for over a year.

Many booths from differing faiths, political interfaith organizations, and seminaries were anxiously handing out their free literature and books to attendee’s as they walked through. (Read more)

“Contemplative Spirituality – the Source of the Catholic Church’s Expansion”

I had always been confused as to the real nature of this advance in the Catholic church. Was this just the work of a few mavericks and renegades, or did the church hierarchy sanction this practice? My concerns were affirmed when I read in an interview that the mystical prayer movement not only had the approval of the highest echelons of Catholicism but also was, in fact, the source of its expansion. Ray Yungen (Read more)

The Saviour Praying in the Garden of Gethsemane

Did He [The Lord Jesus Christ] show ‘unwillingness’ to go to the cross?
It is not uncommon for preachers to explain the words of the Saviour in the Garden of Gethsemane, quoted above, as the Saviour succumbing to a fear of the sufferings He would face on the cross and praying that He might be spared that suffering, though declaring His willingness to submit to it if it was His Father’s will (read more)

The Gospel of Self

A brief examination of the books available in the psychology section of any local book store will confirm the fact that "self-empowerment" is being promoted as a key to the future survival of mankind. There are countless books published centering on the "self." Books on "self-awareness," "self-determination," "self-care," "self-acceptance," and of course, "self-esteem". Without a doubt we have become the "self-generation".

Exposing the Emerging Church (Part 2)

Exposing the Emerging Church (Part 2)

Places and Forms of Worship:
Within the ranks of the Emergent Church there is a widespread rejection of organised religion and a dislike of doctrinal statements of faith, which are viewed as institutional, restrictive and moralistically absolute; these elements would of course hinder the open dialogue deemed necessary for the progression of this movement. This inclusive ideology has given rise to a most liberal interpretation of the Bible and such open-endedness can produce only one outcome - a denial of the absolute truths and contained within God’s Word and consequently an undermining its authority!

Exposing the Emerging Church (Part 1)

Exposing the Emerging Church (Part 1)
Why we seek to expose the errors within the Emerging Church

The editors of B.A.N.A.S.H. believe that it is essential for God’s people to be well informed concerning the false teachings that are currently infiltrating the Church at an unprecedented rate. Sadly many Believers have little or no desire to gain knowledge about the many ‘isms’ that are confronting us at the end of this age. If the Lord Jesus Christ and His Apostles thought it worthwhile to have a knowledge of false teachings with the purpose of reproving them, then we too need to be equally well informed regarding error in order to effectively fulfil the scriptural command to reprove the unfruitful works of darkness.

Madame Guyon: Catholic, Mystic, Apostate.

The Gospel is no Longer Enough

One of the editors of  B.A.N.A.S.H. recently attended a function where 'gospel' music was presented throughout the night. This was followed by a gospel appeal without the gospel having been preached. This event left the editor grieved in her spirit and led her to seek for an article regarding rejection of preaching as the means to save them that believe. (1st Corinthians 1:21) The following article perfectly addresses the problem identified. (Read more)

A Timely Warning Against the Spiritualising of God's Word (especially in respect of the Second Coming of Christ!)

The following extract is taken from J C Ryle's commentary on the Gospel of John Chapter 12 : 12-19:

We learn, for another thing, in these verses, how minutely the prophesies concerning Christ's first coming were fulfilled. The riding into Jerusalem on an donkey, which is here recorded, might seem at first sight a simple action, and in no way remarkable. But when we turn to the Old Testament, we find that this very thing had been predicted by the Prophet Zechariah five hundred years before.

The Eerie Silence of a Silent Church

Why is there almost no call for spiritual discernment within the Church? Why are there so few warnings about a counterfeit “new gospel” movement that maligns the person of Jesus Christ and threatens the lives of His followers?-  by Warren B. Smith (author of False Christ Coming: Does Anybody Care?   (read more)

Hostile Sentiment Toward “End-Time” Believing Christians Increasing

If you haven’t already noticed, anti-Christian sentiment is growing toward those who believe in a biblical last days/Book of Revelation scenario prior to Christ’s return. A 2005 article titled “Lutheran leader calls for an ecumenical council to address growing biblical fundamentalism” should help convince you. The article shows not only this growing resentment towards Bible-believing Christians but also the inter-spiritual path this change in attitude is taking: (read more)

Discernment or Criticism

Taking a stand from a biblical perspective with regard to purpose-driven-emerging Christianity is not very popular these days. Those working towards establishing the kingdom and “getting closer to Jesus” through contemplative practices rooted in eastern mysticism are very outspoken. If you are not in favour of what they are promoting, you are labelled a hater and against everything.(read more)

The Awesome Wonder of God's Word

What a gift, what a treasure, what a wonder the Holy Bible is. It truly is the Word of God as it inspires, nurtures, guides, and sustains us in our walk with the Lord. God’s Word is awesome—so awesome, in fact, that God magnifies His Word above everything else (Psalm 138:2). And when one reads through the Scriptures to see what the Bible says about the Bible, it is an amazing thing to behold. The following verses are just some of what God’s Word says about God’s Word. Jerusalem in the news - Now and in the Future

The devil desires to confound, corrupt and distort both aspects of God’s truth. He is the author of the many “alternative gospels” offered to men today. He is also the author of the confusion that surrounds prophecy.

Such is the confusion he has sown that many believers, including ministers, believe that it is a futile and foolish thing to study what the Bible has to say about prophecy.
What folly!! (read more)

A Word about Spiritual Formation

What is spiritual formation, and what is its premise? According to Roger Oakland, spiritual formation came upon the church like an unsuspecting avalanche:
A move away from the truth of God’s Word to a mystical form of Christianity has infiltrated, to some degree, nearly all evangelical denominations. Few Bible teachers saw this avalanche coming. Now that it is underway, most do not realize it has even happened.(read more)

Eugene Peterson's Message (Part 2) My 1994 Warning

As above, so below; as below, so above.” This maxim implies that the transcendent God beyond the physical universe and the immanent God within ourselves are one.1Ronald S. Miller and the editors of New Age JournalAs Above, So Below, 1992

Eugene Peterson’sThe Messageseems to be very important to Rick Warren. It is the first Bible version that he quotes inThe Purpose-Driven Life. He cites it at the bottom of his dedication page. He cites it again on the page that precedes his first chapter.

Eugene Peterson's Message (Part 1) My 1994 Warning

Eugene Peterson’s Message: (Part 1)
My 1994 Warning
By Warren B. Smith

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (2 Timothy 3:5)

I first became aware of Eugene Peterson’s “paraphrase” of the Bible in 1994 when I was doing a weekly segment on a syndicated radio show based on the East coast. The producer of the show entitled my weekly spot “Keeping Our Eye on the Enemy.” It was based on a scripture from the First Book of Peter where he warned:

The Quantum Christ: Entering the World AND the Church Through Popular New Age & Christian Leaders

The New Age/New Spirituality is already heralding quantum physics as a “scientific” basis for their contention that God is not only transcendent but also immanent—“in” everyone and everything. Physicist Fritjof Capra’s 1975 best-selling book on quantum physics—The Tao of Physics: An Exploration of the Parallels between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism—was the first to present this proposed scientific/spiritual model to a mass audience. In it, Capra explains that he gained new spiritual insights through a mystical experience he had sitting on a beach in Santa Cruz, California in 1969:

As Were the Days of Noah

The recent release of the scripturally inaccurate film ‘Noah’ has generated an interest in the life and times of this godly biblical character. The Lord Jesus Christ also brought attention to Noah and this time period when He likened the days prior to His second coming to the days which preceded the flood; people dwelling on the pre-flood earth demonstrated wilful rejection and indifference to the Word of God, despite this Word having been faithfully delivered unto them for 120 years through Noah’s preaching of righteousness and the accompanying visible sign of God’s impending judgement and means of escape - the ark!

Enoch – An illustration of the importance of watching for the return of Christ as an incentive to holiness.

The most remarkable thing recorded in the Bible about Enoch, a man of the seventh generation from Adam and whose life span would have been overlapped by that of Adam by some 308 years, according to calculations based upon figures given in Genesis 5, was his avoidance of death. Genesis 5:24 says, “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” This truth is further stated in Hebrews 11:5. “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

The Folly of Freud and Psychological Counselling (Part 2)

The Lord’s people have always experienced dark providences in their lives and all Believers’ will continue to be subjected to their ‘valley’ experiences. Apart from certain physiological conditions, neurological disease or damage to the brain, most emotional/behavioural problems experienced by Christian’s are caused by reaction to adverse circumstances within their lives; this may result in them experiencing stress, anxiety or deep melancholy. Painful as it may be, Christians must be prepared to consider if their adverse circumstances have been sent as chastisement from the Lord due to a lack of conformity to his Word!
